Matthew Stewart is an independent philosopher and historian of ideas, educated at Princeton and Oxford, where he earned a D.Phil. in philosophy. A former management consultant, he is known for books that trace the radical Enlightenment's influence on American life, including Nature's God, longlisted for the National Book Award, and The Courtier and the Heretic, on Leibniz and Spinoza.
