About

The show

Uncommon Books for Uncommon Readers is a podcast of conversations with authors — not about the books everyone is already talking about, but the uncommon ones: overlooked, unfashionable, essential.

The name is an argument. The common reader — the phrase is Samuel Johnson's, borrowed by Virginia Woolf — reads on their own terms, uncorrupted by literary fashion or dogma. The uncommon reader goes further, hunting for the books and authors who lead us into hidden terrains of thought, sensibility, and action. This show is that hunt, one conversation at a time.

Every episode pairs a guest with their complete bibliography, so a single conversation opens the door to a writer's whole body of work. For each book we tell you exactly where to find it, favoring independent bookstores through Bookshop.org.

New episodes arrive on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Substack. The best way to keep up is to subscribe.
