Kiran Desai is an Indian-born novelist whose second book, The Inheritance of Loss, won the 2006 Booker Prize, making her at thirty-five the youngest woman then to receive the award. Born in New Delhi in 1971 and the daughter of the novelist Anita Desai, she studied writing at Columbia University. Her long-awaited third novel, The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny, appeared in 2025.
