Bruce Nichols spent nearly forty years in book publishing, serving as publisher of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and of Little, Brown and Company — the original publishers of Thoreau, Hawthorne, and Louisa May Alcott. Raised in a Unitarian household near Concord, Massachusetts, he makes his authorial debut with The Emerson Circle, a group portrait of the Transcendentalists.
